Speaker tackles meth at COMA event

Communities Overcoming Meth Abuse will host an all-day event about meth and meth labs featuring speaker Caoimhin Connell on Tuesday, at Mountain West Insurance, 100 W. Victory Way, in Craig.

Connell is an industrial hygienist with forensic applications. His areas of expertise include: signs of meth labs, clean-up and state statutes.

He will share his knowledge of meth and meth labs in three sessions

• The session from 8 to 10 a.m. is catered toward Realtors;

• From 1 to 3 p.m., the session is catered toward contractors;

• From 7 to 9 p.m., there will be a community presentation.

The public is welcome to attend any of the sessions.

East Elementary holds book fair Nov. 10 to 13

East Elementary School will hold a book fair from Nov. 10 to 13 in the school library. Approximately 300 to 400 books will be available for all ages, preschool to adult, with cookbooks and books for English language learners, as well.

On Monday, Nov. 11, and Wednesday, Nov. 12, fair hours are from 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

On Tuesday, Nov. 12, and Thursday, Nov. 13, fair hours are from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. for Family Nights.

VNA announces health care center opening

Northwest Colorado Visiting Nurse Association announces the opening of the Northwest Colorado Community Health Center, located at 745 Russell St. in Craig, with the arrival of the health center's new physician, Diana Hornung, MD.

NCCHC is scheduled to host an open house for the public in December.

Dr. Hornung is the Family Practice Physician and Medical Director for NCCHC. She completed her degree in medicine in Madison, Wis., and finished her residency in the Fort Collins Family Medicine Residency Program. She went on to work at the Salud Family Health Center in Fort Collins for three years.

"I am committed to providing health care to all and am excited to be a part of this effort in Northwest Colorado," Dr. Hornung said in a news release.

NCCHC, formerly known as Moffat County Care Clinic, is a primary care clinic serving Moffat County and surrounding areas. The clinic has been operated by the VNA since 2005. In August, the clinic received its designation as a Federally Qualified Health Center.

NCCHC, located within the VNA offices at 745 Russell St., is open Mondays through Fridays and serves clients on a sliding fee scale based on income. Clients are seen by appointment. For more information on the clinic, call Gisela Garrison, Heath Center director, at 871-7669.
