Help with pet adoption
To the editor:
Every year at this time, our local animal shelter literally is inundated with cats and kittens. This year is no exception, and the shelter currently is filled to capacity.
The purpose of this letter is to enlist the help of our community in order to buy some time for these animals while the Humane Society of Moffat County and Craig Animal Control can arrange transfer and/or adoptions for these animals.
First and foremost, if you are considering adding a kitten or cat to your household, now is the time to visit the shelter, or view some of our local animals on line at www.petfinder.com. There are cats and kittens of every age, color and description. Animals may be seen at the shelter during regular business hours, but adoptions must be arranged through Animal Control during specific shelter hours.
Second, I would like to encourage community members to open their homes and briefly foster a cat or some kittens. Unless they have special needs or are very young, fostering cats and kittens is not an involved process and generally will not inconvenience your day to day routine. At the shelter, felines are housed in small kennel spaces, so their requirements are minimal. An extra bathroom, utility or laundry room would provide the respite needed for a short time until the shelter no longer is filled to capacity.
If you are interested in providing foster care, please call the animal shelter at 824-7235.
