In the news business, we love elections.

Sure, we journalists know that an election day will be crazy, busy, chaotic and long, but we also know that it is the day when we truly do write the first draft of history.

Every election makes history, but this one will be especially prominent in future U.S. history textbooks because of the presidential and vice presidential candidates.

If the Democrats come out on top, the U.S. will have elected its first non-white president-elect. If the Republicans win, the U.S. will have both its oldest president-elect and its first female vice president-elect.

Either way, the new president will be the first senator elected to that office in nearly 50 years.

There are so many reasons for journalists and political junkies (often one and the same) to be excited for the long night on Tuesday.

We hope our readers are just as excited, too.

With all of the statewide ballot issues, the races for representation in both the nation's capital, Washington, D.C., and the state capital, Denver, the race for a new district attorney, decisions on retention of judges, a contested county commission seat and also the uncontested county races, the results of this election will affect Moffat County in ways that we only can imagine at this point.
