Craig Chairs, cabinets and gaming tables.
These wooden fixtures and more are exhibited at the end of each school year at the Moffat County High School woods show. This year's show bears the title Woodapalooza.
"Woodapalooza" will begin 6 p.m. Friday in the MCHS second floor commons area. The event is free to the public and allows spectators to view the work by wood shop students on projects created in their classes.
Attendees will have the opportunity to study the craftsmanship of each design and vote for their favorites. Awards will be presented to the recipients at the end of the night.
The night also includes a free pizza party and music courtesy of the punk rock band Loaded .45, headed by former woods student Josh Roberts, a 1999 MCHS graduate.
Retiring Woods instructor Craig Conrad plans to make his final show the most impressive one yet. His motivational "Friday Stories," which have been published in his book "Unstoppable" will play into Woodapalooza, too.
"We'll be having some special guests," he said. "I don't want to ruin the surprise, but I think everybody who comes will be inspired."
Conrad said he is thankful to the community for its support of the woods program. He also acknowledged the hard work of his students.
His son, Colton, a graduating senior, is in his final year of woods. His current project is a block front desk made of walnut.
"I'm planning to give it to my parents as kind of a going-away present since it's the last time we'll be part of woods," he said.
Curtis Wright, a junior, has constructed a gun cabinet from red oak, complete with a Lazy Susan revolving base.
"I've spent the entire year working on it," he said. "I'm excited for the show, and I hope I do well in the competition again."
Wright won "Best in Show" his freshman year for his coffee table.
Eric Fleming, a junior, has put a unique style on his rollaway television stand.
"When I was making it, I messed up part of it, but my friend suggested that I use cowhide to cover up the mistake," he said. "After that, I kept going with that idea, and now it's got a lasso and belt buckles under the glass top."
Senior Javier Maldonado has fashioned an archer's bow as well as an accompanying rack to hold it and its arrows.
"I was just going to make the bow at first," Maldonado said. "I finished it faster than I thought, so I made the rack too. I'm not really into archery or anything. It was just fun to make."
