The Moffat County Road and Bridge Department has closed County Road 53 south of U.S. Highway 40 because of dangerous conditions caused by high water.
CR 53, which starts at Highway 40 between Maybell and Lay, is the only road closed as of Thursday afternoon.
Road and Bridge Manager Linda DeRose said the department does not expect to close other roads, “but that could change by the minute.”
CR 129 in northeast Moffat County was washed out by Thursday afternoon, DeRose said, but it is still passable and remains open.
Rivers are at high water marks for the year because of recent rapid snowmelt. A string of higher temperatures melted snow faster than rivers could handle within their normal banks.
Road and Bridge and Moffat County Sheriff’s Office crews continue to monitor rivers and roads around the county, Sheriff Tim Jantz said.
