Craig With Craig Centennial events costing the Museum of Northwest Colorado more than usual, some financial help is “certainly appreciated,” Director Dan Davidson said.
The El Pomar Foundation approved a $3,000 grant for the Museum of Northwest Colorado on May 9.
Shelly Flannery, former Moffat County Tourism Association director, applied for the grant last October while she worked for the county agency. Flannery resigned in January.
Davidson said he wasn’t sure what he would spend the money on, but there is never a shortage for possible projects at the museum.
“We have had a lot of expenses,” he said. “With the Craig Centennial Celebration, we’ve done some more events and had some more exhibits that cost more than we usually spend. We love doing it, though. But, we’ve had some additional expenses, so we can put that money to good use.”
Davidson added it was good to see grant income out of the work Flannery put into applications.
Flannery submitted three grant requests on behalf of the museum in 2007, two of which were denied earlier this year.
The El Pomar grant has been in limbo since then. Flannery’s initial request was for $10,000.
MCTA board member Cindy Looper said it was nice to be able to do something for the museum.
“I think it’s great,” Looper said.
MCTA’s grant requests were part of a deal to rent office space at the museum. A contract between MCTA and the museum calls for $5,000 in 2007 and 2008 to pay for space, which can be raised through grants or paid out of the MCTA budget.
MCTA paid $5,000 in 2007, and this grant amount probably will be taken out of the rent due for 2008, Davidson and Looper said.
