CDOT to start Highway 13 project

The Colorado Department of Transportation expects to begin improvement projects May 21 on state Highway 13 north of Craig.

CDOT will widen and resurface Highway 13 from the Wyoming border south for five miles, from mile marker 128 to 123.

Crews also will install safety improvements on the highway for another 12 miles south from there, from mile marker 111 to 123. These include widening shoulders and installing new, taller guardrails.

The project was awarded to Simon Contractors of Cheyenne, Wyo., for $4.5 million.

Local contracting company Elam Construction submitted the highest of six bids, at about $5.3 million. No other Moffat County-based business offered a bid to CDOT.

The project is scheduled to last until mid-October, weather permitting.

Motorists can expect traffic delays of up to 15 minutes from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Friday while CDOT crews work on the project.

The speed limit will be lowered to 35 miles per hour through the work zone during working hours. No work is scheduled on weekends or holidays.
