• Firefighter John Schwartz, Olney Springs Fire Department, who died April 15 while responding to a brush fire.

Advertising the association

The Moffat County Tourism Association board settled on certain advertising ventures at its meeting Wednesday.

Each year, MCTA purchases ads for itself to promote tourism in Moffat County.

MCTA board members decided to try something new this year, eschewing ads they once purchased in favor of a national opportunity.

Board members approved $1,800 for a quarter-page ad in the summer issue of RV Journal, a quarterly travel publication.

MCTA board member Pat McCaffrey, who also owns the KOA in Craig, said many people in RVs pick up an RV Journal, read it and talk about it with other travelers.

Board members said they declined to spend money on ads in the Explore Craig magazine, published by the Daily Press, and a city/county map available through the Craig Chamber of Commerce, because those publications are read by people who already are here.

MCTA’s focus should be advertising to people outside the immediate area and people who may never have heard of Moffat County, board members said.
