The Colorado Board of Veterans Affairs will be meeting in Craig on the evening of May 13 and the morning of May 14.

On May 13, the board will host a reception for all area veterans to meet the board. The reception will be at the Craig American Legion Post from 6:30 p.m. until 8 p.m. At 9 a.m. May 14, the board will hold its monthly meeting at the Craig VFW beginning at 9 a.m.

The Veterans Affairs Board consists of seven people from across the state. They were appointed to their positions by whomever is the governor of the state of Colorado at the time a vacancy comes open.

Their purpose is to address veterans’ issues, participate in the legislative process on behalf of Colorado’s Veterans, support service programs for Colorado Veterans and their families and to administer the Veterans’ Trust Fund and award grants to various veterans organizations.

In 2007, the Board distributed $540,025 in grant funds across the state. Part of the May meeting will be taken up by reviewing the 2008 grant proposals.

All veterans are encouraged to attend the reception at the Craig American Legion Post on May 13 and meet the board members. They are invited to attend the May 14 meeting, as well.
