Craig briefs for May 3
May 3, 2008
The city of Craig received full funding from the Colorado Department of Local Affairs for a road project on First Street, City Manager Jim Ferree said.
Ferree received the notice this week when he returned from out of town. City officials applied for the money in December.
The $345,000 grant will match an equal amount from the city to put a new asphalt overlay on two miles of First Street from Ranney Street to state Highway 13.
Some of the money also will be used to pull up old asphalt patches, as well, Ferree said.
The city applied for another DOLA grant in April to install new water lines between First Street and the railroad tracks east of Ranney Street.
The total project is expected to cost $400,000, with a 50/50 match between DOLA and the city.
The old ductile pipes in the ground now have had a lot of problems, Ferree said, and should be replaced with PVC plastic piping, which is more stable in corrosive soil.
