— It’s too expensive to drive across the mountains and see live entertainment in Denver, said Julie Dempster, Craig Concert Association board publicity chair.

The Concert Association wants residents to know it’s not too expensive to enjoy a night of live entertainment in Craig.

The Hunt Family Fiddlers cap off the 2007-08 concert season with a performance at 7:30 p.m. Friday at the Moffat County High School auditorium.

The Concert Association will offer a special deal at Friday’s show for new concert series members, Dempster said. Anyone who purchases a series membership for next year will get into the Hunt Family Fiddlers for free.

Memberships are $30 for a single adult, $10 for students or $70 for a family, which includes two adults and any number of children.

“That membership gets you into six concerts,” Dempster said.

Without a membership, each show is $15 at the door.

Sponsor membership levels, which range from $85 to $300, are a key factor in keeping the concert series going, Dempster said.

Each season, the Concert Association tries to put together a collection of eclectic entertainment for the local viewing public.

“We don’t want to stick with all classical music, don’t want all comedians, don’t want all theater stuff,” Dempster said.

This Friday is about music.

The Hunt Family consists of two parents and seven children who combine violins, singing and Irish step dancing into a touring attraction.

They perform Celtic, bluegrass, inspirational and pop music. Some of the children have competed in dance contests in Europe and are internationally ranked Irish step dancers.

The next season should bring in equally strong, equally diverse attractions, Dempster said, including musicians, comedians and storytellers.

It’s rewarding to offer the kinds of shows the Concert Association brings to the area, board chair Faye McKune said.

“We are very proud of the caliber of talent we can bring to our area and still keep season ticket prices at such a reasonable level,” she said. “People would pay at least twice as much for performances by the same professional artists in a large metropolitan area — not to mention expenses saved on travel, lodging, meals and parking.”

Anyone who does not attend Friday’s show but wants to sign up as a member for next season can call Dempster at 824-5251.
