Margaret S. Petersen: Young man deserves thanks for help

I am a disabled person from Craig.
I was down at Loudy Simpson Park walking my dogs on Feb. 29.
I was sitting in my truck watching the dogs run around. The older dog, a 9-year-old german shepherd, fell in the water where the ice melt had started. I did not see her fall in.
A boy named Tyler, about 10 or 12, came up to me on his scooter and told me that one of the dogs had fallen in.
I hurried over as fast as I could with a leg brace and found her in the water. She tried to get out, but the snow on the bank was so soft that it just kept falling around her and she could not get a grip with her feet. I got down on my stomach and grabbed her front leg and pulled her out. I tried to get up but kept slipping in the soft snow.
Tyler took hold of my hand and braced me so I could get up.
I want to thank his parents for raising such a polite, helpful son, and I want to thank Tyler very much for coming to our rescue.
