To the editor:
I am writing this letter in regards to the individuals who hit and killed not one, but two elk on Highway 13. The hit and run took place Saturday, March 8 at about 9:50 p.m. just north of the bypass. Not only did you hit one of the elk so hard it threw it onto my truck causing more than $2,000 in damages, but you left them both in the middle of the highway; one was crying in agony — not a pretty sound — blocking traffic.
You left the scene of an accident not knowing if the elk were suffering or if I was injured, and you left the mess for me to clean up, which I had to do because they were blocking traffic both ways. I want to thank Mr. Foster for helping me drag one off the highway.
Why were you going so fast? Isn’t the speed limit 55 miles per hour after dark on that highway? You were going way too fast to notice. You showed blatant disregard for the law, wildlife and for me, for that matter. Hitting the elk was an accident that could have been prevented had you slowed down, but how you handled the accident shows your character and integrity, neither of which you can be very proud.
I hope you see this letter. If you would like to call and tell me I’m wrong, I would welcome it.
Paul Knez
