Craig A community blood drive is scheduled from 12:30 to 6 p.m. June 24 at the Center of Craig, 601 Yampa Ave.
Donors will receive a Bonfils Blood Center T-shirt.
According to the Blood Center, blood donations drop by 20 percent during the summer months, though the demand for donated blood remains the same.
Donors are recommended to eat a full meal and drink plenty of water before donating blood. For more information or to schedule an appointment, call The Memorial Hospital at 824-9411 between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.
Construction updates at public meeting
The Moffat County School District will host a public meeting at noon today at the district administrative building, 775 Yampa Ave. Updates on the new middle school construction and the renovations at Ridgeview Elementary School and East Elementary School will be presented.
The public also will have an opportunity to ask questions of the project engineers and architects.

Free community barbecue scheduled
The Yampa Valley Electric Association is scheduled to host a free community barbecue from 12:30 to 2 p.m. Saturday at the Moffat County Fairgrounds picnic pavilion in honor of Craig's Centennial Celebration. The event will feature live entertainment including Washboard Annie and 1340 Band. Door prizes also will be awarded. Residents from Craig, Maybell, Hayden, Phippsburg, Steamboat Springs, Baggs, Wyo., Yampa and Toponas are invited to attend. Large numbers are expected and attendees are encouraged to bring blankets and lawn chairs. For more information, call 824-6593.
Railroad history remembered
The Community Foundation of Northwest Colorado will sponsor "Hear that Lonesome Whistle Blow," an evening of memories and stories about the Moffat Rail Line, at 7:30 p.m. June 26 at the Center of Craig, 601 Yampa Ave. Railroad memorabilia will be on display and event organizers will show a Channel 4 video featuring the Craig Depot. Refreshments will be served. The event is free and open to the public. For more information, call 824-8244.
Seminar to highlight drug use in workplace
The Craig Chamber of Commerce Education Series and Communities Overcoming Meth Abuse are scheduled to present a seminar from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursday at the Holiday Inn of Craig. The event will present ways to spot drug users during the interview process and on the job, as well as how businesses can remain drug free. Cost is $15 per person and includes lunch. Humane Society fundraiser June 28
The Humane Society of Moffat County will host its inaugural Bone Appetit Barbecue Dinner/Dance on Saturday, June 28, at the O.P. Bar and Grill. The dinner/dance begins at 6:30 p.m.
Tickets are $30 per person, $55 per couple and $10 for children younger than 12. They are available at the O.P. and from Humane Society members.
There will be a silent auction and door prizes donated by local merchants.
The event is a fundraiser for the needs of animals in Moffat County.

TMH Foundation tourney set for June 27
The Eighth Annual The Memorial Hospital Foundation Golf Tournament is scheduled for Friday, June 27, at Yampa Valley Golf Course. Starting time is 2 p.m.
The tournament, a four-man team scramble format, benefits the Hospital Foundation. Teams may buy mulligans and the mulligan tickets will be used in a drawing for prizes.
The price of the tournament, $50.00 per person or $200.00 per team, includes 18 holes of golf, cart, all you can eat burgers, and a chance to win cash prizes. Prizes include Rockies tickets, restaurant gift certificates and much more.
"Look for the chipping pond to see just how good you really are," the Foundation reported in a news release. "And if you can get your tee shot on the seventh green, you'll be rewarded with golf balls. A straightest drive contest, closest to the pin contest, etc. will all be there.
"This annual tournament is lots of fun and laughs with some good - and some really bad - golf thrown in for good measure."

Healthier Living class begins June 24
If anyone in the community is affected by a chronic condition such as heart disease, diabetes, arthritis, emphysema or cancer, he or she is encouraged to participate in an upcoming class designed for better living.
The free, six-session Healthier Living class starts Tuesday and will take place on Tuesdays through July 29 at Sunset Meadows II, 633 Ledford St. The class is from 1 to 3:30 p.m.
