The Yampa Valley Chapter of Sweet Adelines International traveled to Salt Lake City on May 9 and 10 to participate in the Rocky Mountain Region 8 annual convention and competition.
The competition took place in the new Abravanel Hall, where the sound was "incredible," chorus members said.
Region 8 is comprised of seven states, and this year, 13 choruses from Colorado, Wyoming, Montana, South Dakota and Utah took the stage. The Yampa Valley chapter, from Craig, was one of the smallest groups with 16 members on the risers.
Even so, the chorus scored the highest number of points in its 26 years of competing and placed sixth overall.
The chorus came home with four awards, including second place small chorus, most improved chorus, most improved showmanship chorus and biggest increase of new members in relation to size of the chorus. Director Denise Whitney said that their performance was incredible.
"No one seemed nervous this year," Whitney said. "They walked on the stage with confidence and were every bit the winners that I knew they could be."
The members of the Yampa Valley chapter are "extremely excited about their accomplishments and are very proud to have represented Craig so well," chorus members said.
