Craig The local veteran organizations, the Veterans of Foreign War Post No. 4265 and American Legion Post No. 62, support our local veterans and specialized services to various entities in our community. When you support them, they can support others.
VFW
Besides its bingo sessions and other fundraisers, the VFW’s home is also the address for the Park Café.
The Park Café is a restaurant open to the public and provides a cheery atmosphere for homestyle meals. The VFW also handles the hall rentals for outside groups to meet. It can provide food for these events, or parties can bring in their own. All alcohol has to be purchased on site.
The VFW also provides for liquor sales at outside events such as the rodeo and other special events.
When you support the Park Café by eating there, the proceeds go to club operations, and the funds from other fundraisers can go back to the community in events such as Huck Finn Day, Hometown Heroes, needy assistance, Comrades in Distress and scholarships.
American Legion
The Legion Post provides a range of services for specialized programs in Craig that no other site can provide. Most of these center around the pool facility and hot tub. The Legion also has a hall to rent for functions.
The Legion is raising funds with raffle tickets and bingo at the Elk’s club two times per month. It usually is at 6 p.m. every other Saturday.
The Legion also sponsors events such as its annual Father’s Day spaghetti dinner. These events allow the post to cover the expenses of operation/maintaining the pool complex. It also has established a building fund campaign/ account so that they can complete a lease purchase contract with the county.
Huck Finn Day
Saturday is Huck Finn Day at the Loudy-Simpson Park. Registration runs from 8:30 to 9 a.m., when events begin. There are three age groups for contestants. Those are ages 1 to 5, 6 to 10 and 11 to 15 years.
Division of Wildlife fishing instructions start at 9:50 a.m. The fishing contests then start at 10 a.m. and run until 11:30 a.m. Prizes will be awarded for fishing, but all winners must be registered with the HF Days table. There is to be no alcohol on the site. The VFW, its auxiliary and the DOW are sponsoring the event. Prizes were solicited from local merchants. Refreshments will be provided. Please be ready for inclement weather.
Lost or misplaced
I have lost or misplaced a Canon digital camera. The camera can be replaced, but the disk with the pictures can’t. I am offering a reward for the camera and/or disk return.
