— From cage fights to car races, sports fans have many events to choose from this weekend. Sports will dominate the landscape, and here is a list of events Craig residents can check out.

9 a.m. today — Craig 8-10 all-star tourney

The Craig 8- to 10-year-old all-star baseball team hosts a three-team round robin tournament at Woodbury Sports Complex, 350 S. Mack Lane.

Meeker and Steamboat Springs will visit in Craig’s season opener.

“Come on out and see the little guys play some ball,” Craig coach Billy Bingham said.

Admission is free.

8:45 a.m. today, 9 a.m. Saturday and Sunday — ABC Craig swim meet

The Craig Sea Sharks swimming team hosts it lone meet of the summer season today, Saturday and Sunday at Craig City Park pool, 605 Washington St.

The three-day event — the final regular season meet for all teams — will feature more than 200 swimmers from the western region of Colorado.

“It’s good to see swimmers of all ages compete,” Sea Sharks coach Ashleigh McDonald said. “It’s fun and there are a lot of different teams.”

Admission is free and a concession stand will be open selling food and beverages.

All proceeds raised through the concessions will go to the Sea Sharks swimming program.

7 p.m. today — WDRA Super Late Model races

Hayden Speedway, 37900 County Road 53, Hayden, hosts its lone Friday night race card of the season.

“It’s a great event to bring the entire family to,” Hayden Speedway promoter Dana Goodwin said. “It’s a lot of fun watching these racers give it their all.”

Main gate admission is $7 for ages 14 and older, $3 for ages 5 to 13 and free for youths ages 5 and younger.

Pit gate admission is $25 for ages 14 and older, $10 for ages 5 to 13 and free for youths ages 5 and younger.

7:30 a.m. Saturday and Sunday — Ladies Silver Bullet tourney

The Yampa Valley Golf Course hosts it annual Silver Bullet tournament for women golfers of all skill levels.

The two-day event features six different flights with more than 100 competitors from Colorado and surrounding areas.

“It’s a great atmosphere to be around,” YVGC employee April Sanchez said. “It’s a really good time and a lot of fun to watch.”

Craig residents Meghan Innes and Amber Nicholson — who teamed up to win the ladies doubles tournament June 10 and 11 — are the local favorites.

Fans can catch the action from the deck at the YVGC clubhouse, which overlooks holes 1, 6, 7, 9, 10 and 18.

9 a.m. Saturday, 12:30 p.m. Sunday — USBC mixed bowling tourney (first round)

Thunder Rolls Bowling Center, 990 Industrial Ave., is hosting its 21st annual Colorado State USBC mixed bowling tournament.

The event will feature 96 teams — 48 this weekend and 48 on July 19 and 20 — competing for more than $4,000 in prize money.

“We have got a lot of good bowlers coming in to participate,” Chris Runyan, Thunder Rolls employee said. “There will be a lot of bowlers from the Eastern Slope and all over Colorado. It will be a great event to come out and watch. We have air conditioning and great food, too.”

The United States Bowling Congress sanctions the event, with officials traveling from Denver to mediate.

7 p.m. Saturday — MMA in Meeker

Rampage Promotions presents its second ultimate cage-fighting event Saturday in Meeker.

The event will feature eight fights.

Craig residents Eli Buckner, Justin Donnel, Mark Neimi, Eric Frederickson and David Decker are participating.

“It is a lot of fun to watch,” Rampage Promotions founder Karrie Booth said. “It’s a lot better in person than watching it on TV. You can see the fights up close and personal. There won’t be a bad seat in the house.”

Tickets can be purchased at Holistic Health & Fitness, 420 Breeze St., or at the Rio Blanco Fairgrounds on Saturday.

“I wouldn’t wait” until Saturday, Booth said. “I’d pick them up early in case they sell out.”

Tickets are $30 for general admission, $50 for front row.
