The Journey of Hope, a cycling group raising awareness for diabetes, is scheduled to appear at 2:30 p.m. today at the Boys & Girls Club of Craig, 1324 E. Highway 40. The team will give a bicycle safety presentation and a puppet show at the club.

The group also will meet with Horizons Specialized Services clients at 6 p.m. at Loudy-Simpson Park.

Journey of Hope cyclists spend two months cycling from city to city, raising funds and awareness for people with diabetes. Each cyclist commits to raising at least $5,000 for people with diabetes. For more information, call (704) 504-2400, extension 160.

City Market recalls ground beef

City Market initiated a national voluntary recall of two types of its lean ground beef for possible E. coli contamination.

At 7 p.m. Tuesday, City Market staff around the country were instructed to dispose of one-pound packages of the company’s Private Selection 91 percent lean ground beef with sell-by dates from June 20 to July 3, City Market spokesman Trail Daugherty said.

All parts of The Kroger Co., which includes City Market, were instructed to dispose of the contaminated meat.

Other grocery stores with meat counters also were required to destroy all ground Angus beef with the same sell-by dates.

The meat was linked to E. coli illnesses in Michigan and Ohio last week. U.S. Department of Agriculture released information that the contaminated meat could have gone to other states, as well, including Colorado, Wyoming and Utah.

Anyone who purchased meat with the above sell-by dates is welcome to return the product to City Market for a full refund, Daugherty said.

He added anyone concerned with any beef product purchased at City Market may return it for a full refund, as well.

No residential trash service Friday

The city of Craig solid waste department is not providing residential trash service on the Fourth of July. To accommodate residential customers during the week, trash service will be as follows:

• Monday through Wednesday trash will be picked up on its regular trash schedule.

• Friday’s trash will be picked up Thursday.

If you have any questions or concerns, call City Hall at 826-2005 or the Road and Bridge Department at 824-4463, or leave a message at 824-3278.

Senator scheduled for Craig appearance

U.S. Sen. Ken Salazar, D-Colorado, is scheduled to appear from 2 to 3 p.m. today at the Moffat County Fairgrounds Pavilion.

The senator will spend some of the time discussing the recently passed Farm Bill including conservation, nutrition, commodity and renewable energy titles. The event is open to the public.

Moffat Family Clinic will be doing free sports exams for all Moffat County, Hayden and Baggs, Wyo., students.

Sports exams will be done by appointment only through July 31. Call (970) 824-3252 to schedule your appointment.
