Rick Hammel: Wolves do not attack children

Craig (The letter below is in response to John Thompson’s Jan. 25 letter about children at bus stops being targets for predators.)
To the Editor:
This is one of the myths about wolves. They don’t attack children. There has only been one death of a human ever attributed to a wolf in North America.
It was in Saskatewan, Canada, about three years ago.
And that one is skeptical. Some think it was a black bear. Consider all of the children waiting for school buses in wolf country, and not one of them bothered.
Now, if there was a dog present, that would be reason for concern. Wolves will attack other candids. The children would probably be OK.
