Craig There are many ways to thank veterans.
The Northwest Colorado Snowmobile Club, along with the rest of the Colorado Snowmobile Association, has decided to offer free rides to any military service veteran, or military person presently serving and/or their spouse.
“We thought it would be a nice gesture to show thanks,” said Jenn Tonso, of the Northwest Colorado Snowmobile Association.
The Soldiers’ Snowmobile Ride is jointly sponsored by the Northwest Colorado Snowmobile Club and Elkhorn Winter Adventures.
The ride will be Saturday, Feb. 2, but interested parties must sign up by Jan. 20.
The snowmobile club will provide lunches for the ride.
Elkhorn is donating time on the snowmobiles and warm clothes to wear, as well as the guided tours, which will traverse northeast of Craig in the Pilots Knob area.
For more information and to sign up, call Stan Fox, president of the Northwest Colorado Snowmobile Club, at 326-7160.
The number of snowmobiles available are limited and rides are on a “first call, first sign-up basis.”
Between three and six spots are open, as only three snowmobiles, which seat two people each, are available.
So far, only one veteran has expressed interest.
But that hasn’t swayed Tonso.
“If only one person wants to go, then we’ll only take one person,” Tonso said. “And we’ll go out and have a good day. You have to start somewhere.”
Fox is looking forward to next year.
“We’re getting the word out,” he said. “Next year hopefully, if there’s enough interest, it will mean more sleds.
“I think it’s great for the soldiers and for the families.”

Question of the week
The Moffat County High School football team played its season-opening scrimmage Friday night. The team won three games last year and opens its 10-game season Aug. 29 at Berthoud. How many games do you predict MCHS will win this season?
