Lynette Cloer: Appalled at money spent by candidates

To the Editor:

With the Iowa Caucus over, I'm appalled at the amounts of money spent by these campaigners.

I know this has always been done, but perhaps it's time for a real change. What is different about this election is that they started a year earlier. Oil shortage? How much is used by the bus caravans and plane trips of the campaigners, to say nothing of the news caravans that follow these campaigners 24/7.

The Iowa Caucus was no more than a circus come to town with the proverbial baby kissing and corn caressing.

The campaigners say they are concerned about health care for everyone in this country. With the obscene amount of money being raised and spent by the campaigners, there could be a good start to help the underprivileged and citizens who have fallen on hard times.

This speaks to the frontrunners, let alone the amount spent by dark horses and hangers-on.

I, for one, would vote for the candidate who truly would stand for change by standing firm on their policies and saying so from one campaign base.

One who would participate in debates and get his message to the people without these absurd treks back and forth across the country. One who would raise money to benefit the people rather than himself or herself.

The country's people are not stupid. A good and truthful platform from one point would beat any amount of nomadic travel in this county and others.

I can only think that the people of Iowa are grateful to have the mass of temporary best friends leave their state.

My point is that a lot of good could be done with all of the money and fuel being spent by the campaigners who all say they have our best interest at heart.
