Debra Sanders: A sound off on politics, presidential race
January 8, 2008
To the Editor:
I would like to speak out about the upcoming presidential race. First, I want to qualify myself by saying I have checked the candidates' past voting record as well as cross checked everything each candidate has said against the facts.
My biggest concern, besides the economy and our collapsing dollar, is the Second Amendment, or the right to bear arms.
Do you know the Second Amendment has been challenged and sits in the hands of the Supreme Court right now and they will rule in June? I find this preposterous since the Second Amendment says what it says and means what it says, but regardless of what the Constitution says, I believe the court will come back with a surprise decision - no guns.
I'll explain.
Governors around the country are having some of their decisions regarding their states overruled. It turns out our government (executive branch) has been signing treaties without the knowledge of the people or Congress, without our permission. The UN wants the guns out of the hands of the American people and have buried this clause in some of the treaties.
Most of the presidential candidates say they stand with the Second Amendment, but if you listen closely, 16 out of the 17 candidates have stated clearly that they will abide by the treaties - which include our guns.
The only candidate, who has spoken out against this move is Ron Paul. He states as president he would withdraw the United States from the UN and let us keep our guns.
An uninformed vote is a very dangerous vote. We're facing times you cannot imagine. Our dollar is in a dangerous state right now - it's devalued to 74 cents and dropping.
The Roman Empire never lost a battle, but it collapsed anyway because the empire overextended itself and destroyed its currency. Russia did the exact same thing during the Cold War, and its currency collapsed as well, and now it's our turn.
Ron Paul is the only candidate offering solutions to our economic woes.
Ron Paul has been in Congress for 30 years; he is known as Dr. No.
He is a Constitutionalist who believes in the Second Amendment and has never voted for a tax increase in those 30 years - a real conservative.
I encourage everyone to look up Dr. Paul on the Internet at RonPaulforPresident.com. The mainstream media has blacked him out because of his message.
I might add, Ron Paul raised more money in the fourth quarter than any other candidate, Democrat or Republican. It is also worth noting that Dr. Paul has received more donations from the military, on and off duty, than any other candidate. The endorsement of our military as far as I'm concerned is "the endorsement."
