Bookmark contest to celebrate Dr. Seuss
Dr. Seuss' birthday is March 2. When Seuss (Theodore Geisel) was 50 years old in 1954, he created his first and maybe most famous book - "The Cat in the Hat." A publisher challenged Dr. Seuss to use 250 of the most important words for children to learn. Dr. Seuss used 220 of those words in "The Cat in the Hat," which was an instant success.
Now, 54 years later, children and adults still love to hear the fun rhythm of Dr. Seuss' jaunty stories.
To celebrate this special children's author, Downtown Books and The Print Shop invite all Moffat County elementary students, kindergarten through fourth grade, to participate in Seuss' birthday by creating their own special Dr. Seuss bookmark.
Students should submit their original artwork and words that reflect all the things they love about Dr. Seuss and his books. The first-place winner will receive $25, second-place winner $15 and the third-place winner $10 in Craig Spree Bucks.
Students may enter two times. Applications are available at Ridgeview, Sunset and East elementary schools, the Boys & Girls Club of Craig, Downtown Books, The Print Shop and Serendipity Coffee Shop.
The winners will be honored at a special Dr. Seuss party Monday, March 3, at Downtown Books, 543 Yampa Ave. The party will begin at 4 p.m.
