— Andy Keith, store manager of Murdoch's Ranch & Home Supply, originally is from Washington, but he doesn't mince words when talking about where he calls home.

"It's permanent," Keith said. "We're going to be with Murdoch's and Craig for the long haul. We're here to stay."

Based off the reception Keith received Tuesday, the feelings are mutual.

The Craig Chamber of Commerce named Keith, the store manager since July 2006, as its Businessperson of the Year during the State of the County: An inside look at Moffat County event at the Holiday Inn of Craig.

"Andy Keith has been a terrific asset to Murdoch's Ranch & Home Supply and to the town of Craig," Chamber Executive Director Christina Currie said.

Currie said Keith's store management, community involvement and customer service all played a part in his selection.

Store community outreach efforts have included participating in Grand Olde West Days, the Bears Ears Shooting Club, Boys & Girls Club of Craig, 4-H events, silent auctions, numerous fundraisers, Moffat County High School agricultural, wood shop and welding classes, and Cancer Walk, among others.

When dealing with the customers, Keith "has a way of handling customers to ensure they feel welcome and valued when they shop at Murdoch's," Currie said.

"Since the store opened, Andy has worked hard to establish a good rapport with the community as a whole," she said. "The continued sales growth is a result of the good relationships which have been built.

"As an employer, you couldn't ask for a better manager. Just ask the employees. All have a great respect for him and really enjoy their jobs," Currie said.

Keith helped set up the Craig Murdoch's store in August 2005, and transferred to become the store's assistant manager two months later, in October 2005.

He manages 42 employees at the store.

He said Tuesday night that Craig and Moffat County has a "down-to-Earth, soul feeling" to it, and it's a good place for him, his wife, Jolene, and their two daughters. The Keith's also are expecting a son at the end of March.

"It's a really nice place to raise a family," Keith said. "The town is friendly. It's just good people."

Sitting with his wife at a table not far from the lectern, Keith said he had no inkling that he would make the short march up to receive the award.

"It was actually a 100 percent surprise," Keith said. "I was like, 'wow, that's an honor.' It was completely out-of-the blue."

In another tribute to his work at the store, colleagues from Murdoch's corporate office, located out of the state, made the trip to Craig to share in Keith's award.

"Murdoch's, a ranch and home supply store chain of 14 stores in four states, is thrilled to celebrate the success of Andy Keith and his team here in this great community of Craig, Colorado," Currie said. "So much so, that many of his co-workers have traveled from the home office in Bozeman, Mont., to be part of this salute to Andy."
