Feb. 17 to 23 is “Through With Chew Week,” a campaign to decrease spit tobacco and increase awareness of the negative health effects of using this product. In addition, the “Great American Spitout” is Feb. 21. Tobacco-free quit kits for chewers are available at the VNA offices in Steamboat at 940 Central Park Drive, Suite 101 and in Craig at 745 Russell St. The kits promote the Colorado QuitLine and free support from a trained coach who guides and supports individuals through the quitting process. Research shows you are seven times more likely to end your tobacco habit with the QUITLINE than if you are trying to quit on your own.

Four weeks of free nicotine patches are available, a $100 value. Nicotine gum also is available. Simply call 1-800-QUIT-NOW (784-8669). Call the VNA at 871-7664 for further assistance.

Daily Press seeking nominations

The Craig Daily Press is asking for the public’s help in identifying some of the area’s top professionals younger than 40 years old. The newspaper is seeking nominations and those professionals selected will be featured in upcoming editions.

Nominations may be e-mailed to the paper at editor@craigdailypress.com or by calling editor Jerry Raehal at 824-7031, ext. 204, or assistant editor Joshua Roberts at 824-7031, ext. 210.

Question of the week

Steamboat Springs is considering adopting a social host ordinance, which would add harsher punishments — such as jail time — for adults who knowingly “host” parties where underage drinking is allowed. Do you think Craig needs a social host ordinance?
