Bill Harding: Make voice heard, or don't complain

The caucus night was Tuesday.

Hopefully no matter what your political party affiliation, you participated in the political process at the caucuses on Super Tuesday.

Even though you support one party or candidate; or you support the war or are entirely against it, in order to "change" the focus of our government "of the people, by the people and for the people," you must participate in the political process to facilitate change. Thousands have died to protect this right; thousands of others still bare the scars, physical or mental, so that we enjoy the freedoms we do - the ability for our government to change leadership without an armed coup or worse.

If you can't take the time to participate, then don't bother to gripe about the outcome.

Kiwanis play ticket sales go on sale at 6 p.m. Friday at the VFW Club.

The line for tickets probably will form early Wednesday in order to get the best seats/tables for the event in March.

Support this annual event, as it is the major fundraiser for the Kiwanis Club and all the contributions they make back to the community.

The Wild Turkey Federation is holding its annual membership and fundraiser this weekend at the fairgrounds pavilion. Doors open at 6 p.m., dinner is at 7 p.m. and those who purchased tickets prior to Feb. 2 are entered into a drawing for a gun.

VFW members will be providing the bar service.

Moving Wall scholarship

The Moving Wall committee is offering a scholarship for graduating seniors this spring.

This scholarship will be awarded based on an essay - 500 words - on "What the Moving Wall means to me."

The VFW and English Department at the Moffat County High School will work together to set the parameters and judge all the entries so that a deserving finalist will receive this award.

Flu shots

Flu shots still are available for veterans at the Telehealth Clinic in Craig. If you haven't gotten your shot yet, there still is some time. You must be actively enrolled in the VA health care system to be eligible.

I am looking for this vet. I am receiving mail regarding VA appointments for you at my office since the VA apparently does not have another address for you. Call or stop in ASAP.

For information on these programs and/or other veterans' benefits, call or stop in the Moffat County VSO office at 480 Barclay St. (west of the Bank of Colorado parking lot). Call 970-824-3246 or use the fax 970-824-7108. Our e-mail address is veterans@moffatcounty.net. The office is open from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., Monday through Thursday. Other times can be arranged by appointment only. Bring a copy of your separation papers (DD-214) for application for VA programs and for filing at our office.

Regarding the caucus let me add, An uninformed vote is a dangerous vote. It's not ok, in my opinion, to just vote your party anymore.

Does ANYONE realize that McCain has an (F-) in 2nd Amendment rights? Does anyone care? Do you even know this? Same with the other candidates, except Ron Paul. Paul says he will pull out of the UN and the tradedeals BECAUSE they take our guns. All the other candidates say they'll abide by the treatys. I don't think Romney even knows what's in those agreements signed by King George. I do, I've read them. Give your sheriff a call and rattle his cage about our guns and see where he stands on the issue. Will we give them up?
