Merry Christmas, and have a happy new year
To all local veterans, their widows and dependants; and all those currently serving in the military during these trying times: My sincerest wish is for a safe and honorable return for all those from Moffat County and the United States in the very immediate future. For the families with loved ones in distant places and in harm's way, I know your feelings at this time of year, both from the stateside absence and the overseas assignment perspective. My thoughts and prayers are with you all.
Veteran transport to VAMC Grand Junction
VAMC Grand Junction and the Craig Telehealth Clinic will be closed today, Friday and Jan. 1. VAMC will see local vets with emergency room admissions, if necessary. The Telehealth Clinic does not take ER admits, nor do we transport vets with ER conditions. If you need ER help during this period, seek the nearest local ER facility and transport services.
Presently, we have no requests for rides Monday through Jan. 3. Dick Maxson has asked for time off from Monday through Jan 2, therefore we are not planning to make any trips to VAMC during this period.
This will give Dick some time off.
Call my office for VA schedule appointments during this period. We will work out transport or rescheduling appointments.
Washington D.C. trip for WWII veterans
We still are looking for WWII veterans to go to Washington, D.C., this spring. We also are looking for sponsors to help defray the costs of this program out of Grand Junction's airport. If you have questions, or need an application, call my office 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday.
Veteran flu shots held at Telehealth Clinic
Flu shot walk-ins are still on-going at the Craig VA Telehealth Clinic. Call, stop in and visit with April Branstetter and Robbie Fentress. Vets must be currently enrolled in the VAMC healthcare system to get these shots. For more information, call 824-6721.
For information on these programs or other veterans' benefits, call or stop in the Moffat County VSO office at 480 Barclay St. (west of the Bank of Colorado parking lot). Call 970-824-3246 or use the fax 970-824-7108. Our e-mail address is veterans@moffatcounty.net.The office is open from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., Monday through Thursday. Other times can be arranged by appointment only. Bring a copy of your separation papers (DD-214) for application for VA programs and for filing at our office.

Question of the week
Should the Craig Chamber of Commerce revise its State of the County attendance policy to allow people to hear speakers without paying for a ticket?
