Two weeks removed from its season-opening meet in Grand Junction, the Moffat County girls swim team returned Saturday to the Orchard Mesa Pool.

The Bulldogs competed against different teams, but their goal remained the same - cutting time.

Mission accomplished.

Despite Moffat County finishing last in the three-team dual meet, the Bulldogs took a big step toward the season-ending state championships, cutting time in each of the 10 events competed in.

Some - namely Tatianna Dulmaine and Katherine Dodd - cut an amount of time that sounds difficult enough throughout the course of a season, let alone two weeks.

But, they did.

Dulmaine finished sixth in the 100-yard freestyle, completing the required four laps in 1 minute, 21.56 seconds.

Her final time was nearly 20 seconds away from the state qualifying mark in the event, but when considering she finished 18.15 seconds faster than she did two weeks ago, 20 seconds seems like nothing.

Dodd was just as impressive.

The Bulldogs team captain shaved 13.5 seconds off her previous best time in the 500-free, placing third in 6:33.31.

Dodd carried her quickness over to the relay team events, uniting with Danielle Brockman, Cameo Wilson and Sarah Kirk to finish fifth in the 200-free relay.

The foursome's time of 2:06.21 bested their previous season-low of 2:22.78 by nearly 17 seconds and puts the team within 15 seconds of qualifying for state.

The relay team also cut 2.5 seconds in the 200-medley relay, placing second.

Dodd also chopped five seconds in the 200-free, placing second.

Meghan Knez cut more than four seconds in the 200-IM and the 100-breast, finishing fourth and second, respectively, while Dulmaine cut four seconds in the 50-free, placing seventh.

The Bulldogs have a break for the holidays, then resume action Jan.3 as hosts of the Moffat County Invite.
