I would like to take a moment to sincerely thank the American Red Cross for its recent support of stranded high school students. On the evening of Dec. 13, a speech and debate tournament was wrapping up; however, the troubles outside were just beginning. The storm that caused most of us to stay in our homes, closed roads and had laid a blanket of snow all around the valley delayed about 50 people from getting home.

The timing of “Call in Gay Day” wasn’t exactly ideal. With a massive layoff announced every hour on CNN, I’d think twice about calling in sick with malaria right now.
