1. Genna Bradley, 315.60*

* qualified for 2009 state championships

— Nearly a year removed from her last taste of competitive swimming, diver Genna Bradley picked up right where she left off.

The Steamboat Springs resident and Moffat County High School diver stormed through the pool at Montrose High School on Saturday, making noise in the season's first diving competition and helping the Bulldogs to a seventh-place finish.

"They did well," coach Megan Francone said about her team. "Considering we only had eight girls in the water, as opposed to 30 to 45 on a team, we placed well for our number, and Genna made state."

The last time Bradley cut through the water from a one-meter high diving board was in the 2008 state championships.

After Saturday's performance, Bradley will be making a return trip.

The junior finished her 11 dives with a total of 315.60 points - 15.60 more than the 300 required to advance to the season-ending meet.

"She was really exciting to watch," the first-year coach said. "I've only seen her in practice. Live, in person, during competition, she's awesome."

Bradley performed four dives that scored at least a 2.2 on the degree of difficulty scale, finishing the meet with 10 of the 11 highest scores.

Outside of the diving competition, the Bulldogs had two top-10 finishes on their way to 72 team points.

Danielle Brockman finished ninth in the 200-yard backstroke, and Cameo Wilson placed eighth in the 50-yard butterfly.

Francone said she also was impressed with the performance by Sarah Kirk in the 100-yard individual medley.

"We had to give them a qualifying time for the event, and I just added up her times from the four different events," Francone said. "She made me look like a fool. They told me to give them my best guesstimate, and I did not guess very well."

Francone listed her at 2:06.27.

Not even close.

Kirk finished in 1:20.95.

"She blew them away in that heat," Francone said. "It was ridiculous. She was on fire at this meet."

Kirk also dropped nine seconds in the 50-breast.
