A memorial service for Saed Tayyara Memorial services for Saed will be held at the Calvary Baptist Church at noon Saturday. One of Saed's last requests was for a large U.S. veterans presence at this event. I am asking for all veterans who can attend to do so and, if possible, wear your military service, vet organization uniform or at least the cap. Unfortunately, most of the active VFW members, including this VSO, will be attending the VFW District meeting in Steamboat Springs, which had been scheduled for months. I need the rest of the veteran community to step forward and honor Saed's support of the veteran assist program, the VSO position/officer and funding the vet transport system to VA healthcare facilities.

Sending mail to troops
The U.S. Postal Service recommends doing it soon. All holiday mail for troops in Iraq and Afghanistan should be mailed by today to arrive before Christmas. The USPS is running a brief on page 5 of the Daily Press today explaining their services and deadlines. Read them and comply so that our young service men and women know that public support still exists for their sacrifices on our behalf.
