The Boys & Girls Club of Craig is looking to put the "fun" in fundraiser this weekend.

The youth-based organization, located at 1324 E. U.S. Highway 40, is scheduled to host Cowboy Christmas, its annual fundraiser, at 6:30 p.m. Saturday.

Residents attending the event can help provide a safe haven for area children.

All proceeds from the event support the Boys & Girls Club, which provides activities for Craig students year-round. Club administrators will use the funds to supplement the money the club collects from $10 membership fees charged per child. Those fees pay only a fraction of the $450 required for hosting one child for a year.

"The money that is coming from our community (during the fundraiser) will be used to make sure that every kid that wants to come to the club has that opportunity," said Dana Duran, Boys & Girls Club executive director.

Tickets for the event cost $35 each and are available at The Kitchen Shop, 577 Yampa Ave.; Chapman Automotive, 310 E. Victory Way; and Boys & Girls Club.

"Tickets are selling pretty fast," Duran said.

The 1340 Band, a local group, is scheduled to perform at the fundraiser. Local businesses also have pitched in, donating auction items ranging from a round of golf to acupuncture sessions to a jersey autographed by former Denver Broncos quarterback John Elway.

"We're really excited," Duran said. "We've gotten great donations."

The Boys & Girls Club has added another attraction to its yearly fundraiser: a Texas hold 'em tournament in which attendees can participate with a $20 suggested donation.

Prizes to winners at each table as well as a grand prize will be awarded.
