The Moffat County Republican Party Vacancy Committee is seeking residents interested in filling the vacancy for Moffat County District 2 commissioner.
Any person to be considered for this vacancy must be at least 18 years old, a resident of Moffat County District 2 and a registered Republican as noted by the voter registration book of the Moffat County Clerk and Recorder.
The Vacancy Committee is charged with appointing a replacement for this position no later than 10 days from the date of the vacancy.
Persons interested in submitting their names for consideration to fill the vacancy must submit a written letter with accompanying resume to a member of the Vacancy Committee by 5 p.m. Friday.

Gingerbread House Contest deadline Friday
The deadline to enter the Gingerbread House Contest is Friday. All entries must be dropped off at the Museum of Northwest Colorado by 4 p.m. that day.
The contest is an annual event sponsored by the Downtown Business Association in Craig.
“It sounds like it’s going to be bigger and better this year,” said Jan Gerber, of the Museum of Northwest Colorado. She said this observation was based on the number of boards requested upon which people build the houses.
Contest rules are as follows:
• Houses must be constructed on boards provided with entry fee.
• Entire house must be made of edible products. No lights, cardboard, supporting structures, or artificial display materials are to be used. Candies must be unwrapped.
• Cost to enter is $6, with the board included. It is $2 for anyone using a board from a previous year.
• There are three divisions: Adult, Kids ages 11 to 17, Kids 10 and younger
Entries will be judged Friday, with results posted on Saturday. Entries will remain on display through Saturday, Dec. 20. A first-place and second-place prize will be awarded in each category.
Daily Press editorial board seeks members
The Craig Daily Press is seeking three to four people to participate on its next editorial board, which begins Jan. 1, 2009. Editorial board members will meet from noon to 1 p.m. Thursdays to discuss the paper’s opinion pieces for the next week’s Wednesday and Saturday papers. Editorial board terms last three months. Coalition’s work skills survey available online
The Moffat County Work and Life Skills Program Coalition is attempting to narrow the list of work force skills it will teach local students in its upcoming program.
The coalition, which includes members of the local education and business communities, has created an online survey that asks community members to weigh in on essential topics for its program to help students find success as working adults.
The program is scheduled to start in January. Funds from Colorado Works, the state welfare program, will fund the four-month extracurricular course.
There is no deadline for completing the survey.

Handel’s ‘Messiah’ performance is Dec. 18
The second annual production of Handel’s “Messiah” will take place on Dec. 18 at the Moffat County High School Auditorium.
The performance is free and open to the public.

CSU seeking poetry submissions for prize
The Center for Literary Publishing on the Colorado State University campus in Fort Collins is accepting submissions for the 2009 Colorado Prize for Poetry through Jan. 12, 2009.The Center is looking for book-length collections of poems. The winner will be awarded a $1500 honorarium and have their book published through the Center. Anyone may submit their work and should include a $25 reading fee, which includes a one-year subscription to Colorado Review.
