The local chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution plans to hold a posthumous ceremony in honor of Moffat County Commissioner Saed Tayyara at 7 tonight at Craig Christian Church, 960 W. Victory Way.

Tayyara died Saturday evening in Craig.

The DAR did present him with the medal the day before he died.

“We were very grateful we were able to get it to him,” local DAR organizing regent Shannan Koucherik said. “He was very happy about it. It was important to him.”

The group will present his family with its Americanism medal. It is the organization’s highest honor bestowed on naturalized citizens who have shown outstanding leadership and patriotism.

Organizers planned to present the medal to Tayyara but have agreed to hold the intended ceremony at his family’s request.

The Mount Garfield and the Augusta Wallihan (forming in Craig) chapters co-sponsored the award.

For more information about the local chapter of DAR or about Monday night’s ceremony, call Shannan Koucherik, at 824-9518.
