The Editorial Board was right on complaining about prices in Craig, even if they did not know where the load came from. Sunday, the price of gas in Steamboat was $4.15 and in Craig $4.43, a difference of 28 cents a gallon. It costs about $2.50 a mile to move freight by truck or $112.50 to get from Steamboat to Craig. A tanker hauls around 5,000 gallons, so someone is making a tidy $1,287.50 per load of gas sold in Craig. Also, remember that the price of everything (labor, real-estate, etc.) is much higher in Steamboat, so the profit on gas in Craig is probably even higher.
