CBI investigating Meeker shooting

— A Meeker Police Department officer was involved Friday morning in a fatal shooting incident with an adult male, the Police Department reported.

The officer was responding to a domestic violence report about 5:45 a.m. Friday at the Valley Motel, 723 Market St., in Meeker. The officer discharged his weapon, and the man was shot and died at the scene.

The Colorado Bureau of Investigation is investigating the shooting. Using the CBI to investigate an officer-related shooting is a common practices for smaller police departments.

The officer has been placed on administrative leave with pay while the investigation is pending.

Neither Meeker police chief Robert Hervey nor police department public information officer and town manager Sharon Day would comment on the shooting because it is an ongoing investigation.
