Sari Cobb: Cartoon disrespectful to the presidency

To the Editor:

OK, I'm tired of being silent. I realize this is just the warm-up season for the election next year, but the cartoon in Saturday's paper just went too far. I was raised to respect the office of the president of the United States of America.

I know there are some out there who do not agree with President Bush and his decisions, but portraying the president of our great country as a monkey has gone too far.

When do we step back and take notice that we are teaching our children to disrespect anything they don't agree with, and it's OK to make a mockery of the highest office in the land?

political cartoons have been in papers since this country was made; that's what makes this country the country that it is. We have a right to disagree with our leaders. And once the President quits making a mockery of our country, Americans might quit making a mockery of "the highest office in the land".
