Craig — Hustle and flow.

That’s what Craig Middle School girls volleyball coach Becky Field is most pleased with after her girls cruised to a 25-3, 25-12 straight game victory against Rangely on Saturday.

“The girls played exceptionally well for a season opener,” Field said. “To be honest, it really wasn’t a real test for us.”

Rangely suited up only eight girls for the match-up with CMS, and the lack of depth seemed to wear on the Panthers.

“Rangely had a hard time receiving off of our service game,” Field said. “Our girls have really hard serves, and they couldn’t do much with them.”

The Bulldogs rotated between their A and B teams, enabling the team to stay fresh throughout the contest.

“It was as though they were playing two teams and we were playing against one,” Field said. “When we scrimmage against our B team, its more of a competition for us.”

Field said she would continue to rotate the A and B lines until she figures out who plays well together. Team unity is important, considering most of the girls are playing organized volleyball for the first time.

“There is no volleyball until these girls reach the seventh grade,” she said. “It’s impressive to see them dominate like they have.”

With a match-up looming Saturday against rival Steam-boat Springs, Field is looking forward to the competition.

“Steamboat and us are the only schools with enough depth to field multiple teams,” she said. “We beat them both times last year, and we want to win again this time.”
