Dr. Michael Sisk: Please vote 'yes' on 1A in November

Over the past few weeks, I've watched the discussion about a new hospital facility unfold on the Craig Daily Press reader forum, and I've heard the discussion in the community. I'm compelled to offer my opinion about whether a new hospital facility will mean more doctors and specialists.

Of course it will.

I practice medicine in Craig at The Memorial Hospital every week. I visit patients in the clinic, operate in the TMH operating rooms and visit my patients, who are admitted to the hospital after surgery. There are weeks when I spend as much time in Moffat County as I do in Routt County because of the increased need for orthopedic surgery. I have first-hand knowledge of the facility and its deficiencies.

A new hospital in Craig will improve safety and procedure capabilities. I've made a 100 percent commitment to providing the best orthopedic care possible in Moffat County. I want to be able to continue to provide the same level of orthopedic care that can be expected in a big city. We can do anything with the right facility.

This community needs to envision itself as a regional hospital, catering to patients from Meeker, Vernal, Rangely, Craig and southern Wyoming - our potential is unreal. If the energy growth in this area continues, we need a new hospital to handle the volume of patients and to provide the technology that area residents expect.

A new hospital is a very important part of continuing to provide quality health care in Moffat County. A new hospital is a crucial part of recruiting and retaining doctors who want to provide the kind of care that Moffat County expects and deserves.

I encourage you to vote yes on 1A in November.
