Craig The Craig Police Department arrested a Craig man Thursday in connection to the September robbery of the east Kum & Go.
The 14th Judicial District Attorney’s Office charged Keone Ikaika Beaulieu-Kalilikane, 20, with aggravated robbery, a class three felony, on Friday. He currently is being held in the Moffat County Detention Center on a $30,000 bond.
The robbery occurred at approximately 1:50 a.m. Sept. 26 at the 700 E. Victory Way Kum & Go location.
Beaulieu-Kalilikane allegedly entered the store dressed in black clothing, wearing a ski mask that covered his face, and after a few minutes, approached the clerk displaying a handgun and demanding all of the money in the cash register, according to a Police Department press release.
An undetermined amount of cash was allegedly taken. The clerk was not harmed, and no shots were fired.
Some of the clothing and the handgun — which turned out to be a toy — were found in a building located on the Moffat County Fairgrounds.
Based on the ongoing investigation, Detective Ken Johnson arrested Beaulieu-Kalilikane at 4:20 p.m. Thursday.
There were other suspects in the case, Police Chief Walt Vanatta said, but the investigation has led to Beaulieu-Kalilikane, whom is believed to have acted alone.
The chief said the arrest surprised those who know the suspect, who — after the alleged robbery — has since been hired by the east Kum & Go store, unbeknownst to the charges to be filed against Beaulieu-Kalilikane.
“We’ve talked to some of the other places that he worked, and all they can say is ‘Unbelievable. He’s just a really nice guy,’” Vanatta said. “That’s all anybody can say. … Everybody is just really shocked.”
Beaulieu-Kalilikane’s next court appearance is at 11 a.m. Tuesday for an advisement on his charges.

Question of the week
Did the Moffat County School Board make the right decision in replacing MCHS athletic director Rick Penner, who had been considered missing after not being heard from for about a week?
