Norma Jean (Montieth) Rolando died Tuesday, April 17, 2007, at Sacred Heart Hospital in Eugene, Ore., following a long illness.
Norma was born May 2, 1924, in Mount Harris to Sam and Ida Montieth. She was the third of 12 children, and attended grade school in Mount Harris and high school in Hayden.
Norma was born into this world as truly one of a kind. She loved and served all those around her. When you went to her home she always had a feast and kept the welcome mat out to all.
Norma married a hometown boy, Joe Rolando, Jr. in Hayden on Dec. 19, 1942, at the Congregational Church. To this union, two children were born: Patsy and Jody. The couple lived in Mount Harris, where Jr. worked at the coal mines until April 1958.
They moved to Craig where Jr. worked for Moffat County. In 1975, the couple took a trip to Oregon to visit Norma's sister, Julia. They loved the country so the next spring they returned to Riddle, Ore., to live.
They made a lot of friends and enjoyed potluck dinners and playing card games with them. Norma loved her family and enjoyed cooking and caring for each and every one of them. She wasn't just a wife, mother or grandmother to them, but their best friend. They all looked up to her.
She loved working in her yard and camping at the coast.
Norma will be missed by all her family and friends.
She is survived by her husband, Jr. Rolando; daughters, Patsy Winn of Winston, Ore., and Jody DeBaca of Riddle, Ore.; grandchildren, Rocky Madden and wife Shelley, Joe Dodge, Troy DeBaca and wife Christy and Misty DeBaca; eight great-grandchildren; two sisters, Doris Rutherford of Craig and Ruby DeLuca of Hayden; Herb Montieth, Jim Monthieth and George Montieth, all of Hayden; and Ed Montieth of Oak Creek.
She was preceded in death by her parents, brother Bill, sister Julia, and three siblings that died as infants.
