When Shannon Lee bought Baker Drive Pets on Jan. 16, her first order of business was to clean up and remodel.
That project included installing new carpet and getting a fresh coat of paint on the walls.
"We did tear some walls down to make it bigger," Lee said.
She bought the business, 2218 Baker Drive, from eight-year owners B.J. Stevens and Barry Miller. Stevens, from whom Lee is leasing the building, stayed on for a while to help Lee make the transition.
Lee has lived in Craig since 2000. She used to own a ranch in Maybell and most recently worked at Safeway for nine years.
"I really like pets," Lee said. "And I was just ready for a change."
Lee and two employees operate the store, which carries a variety of fish, birds, mice, rats, hamsters, gerbils, iguanas, geckos and ferrets.
Lee hopes to someday expand to offer kittens and puppies, as well as pond supplies.
Severson Supply offers mid-range-size rentals
Severson Supply and Rental Co., a business that's been in Craig since 1972, began offering a variety of rental equipment in November 2005.
"It was a service that wasn't being provided in Craig," manager Todd Jourgensen said.
Gail Severson and her children, Dan Severson, Terri Jourgensen and Julie Baker, own the business at 2453 W. First St.
The business sells expendable wear parts to mining and construction companies in the area.
Adding the rental portion of the company includes offering backhoes, light towers, air compressors, skid steers, post hole augers, telehandlers, manlifts, small loaders, excavators, water pumps and some small hand tools.
Todd Jourgensen said Severson Supply will rent to businesses or individuals for as long as the equipment is needed.
Severson Supply is a Genie manlift, Shark pressure washer and Wacker compaction equipment dealer.
