Dr. Armand D. Boudreau Jr.: Craig best stop on Ride the Rockies bike tour

To the Editor:

On Saturday, June 23, I completed the Ride the Rockies Bicycle Tour and, upon reflection of the places we visited, Craig was by far the best.

It started with the Ride the Rockies banner proudly displayed as we were riding into Craig, to the individuals sitting alongside the road welcoming all of the cyclists, and that was just the beginning.

As we headed to the school, there were children selling lemonade. I rode around the block to go back to buy some lemonade and it reminded me of when I was a child doing the same thing. Then I turned the corner heading up the hill before the last turn to the high school and on our left was a young girl with an American flag in one hand and a pinwheel in the other welcoming us as we were heading to the high school.

It was so cute.

This sight made me think of what America is all about and was a memory that will live with me forever as a significant reflection of your incredible community. Then there were the individuals at the school selling burritos as a fundraiser for their church. They were so good I had to go back and get another one.

Also, a very special thanks to the folks selling all of the homemade pastries and cookies.

I had to go downtown to get some sunburn spray and visited the neatest store I had ever been in where there were boxes filled with all kinds of stuff.

When I missed the bus to get back to the school there was a lady (all I know was her name was Peggy and she runs a beauty salon in Craig) who said that she would give us a ride back to the high school.

She was so nice to go out of her way to help us. Just absolutely incredible. There were folks just about everywhere trying to help us in any way they could.

Your park was fabulous and the carvings were spectacular. I had never seen anything like it before. I spent 30 years in the United States Air Force and have traveled and moved a lot; your community was the best I have ever visited. So that is why I wanted to write this letter to thank your entire community for your hospitality and kindness. I cannot wait to visit Craig again.

Thank you so much.
