A 30-year-old Craig man died Saturday morning in a vehicle accident, and investigators suspect alcohol was a contributing factor, the Colorado State Patrol reported.

Moffat County Coroner Owen Grant said Jason W. Kilwein was the accident victim. State Patrol troopers said the victim had ties to both the Craig and Casper, Wyo., communities.

Although a toxicology report is pending, the State Patrol reported that it believes alcohol played a role in the accident, which occurred about 9:40 a.m. Saturday on Moffat County Road 4 near milepost 15.

Kilwein was the lone occupant in the vehicle.

The State Patrol reported Kilwein was driving a red Chevy Blazer eastbound on County Road 4. His vehicle entered a left-hand curve, traveled off the right side of the pavement and began to rotate counter clockwise.

The Blazer then re-entered the roadway and continued a broadside skid. It then began to roll side over side, rolled off the left side of the pavement and came to rest on its wheels after rolling three times, the State Patrol reported.

Kilwein, who was not wearing a seatbelt, was ejected from the vehicle and suffered fatal injuries.

Trooper Kirk Gardner said the State Patrol is "actively investigating" the crash and were assisted Saturday by the Moffat County and Carbon County sheriff's offices and the Little Snake River Emergency Medical Services/Fire Department.

Grant said funeral services for Kilwein are pending.
