U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement officials detained 38 “criminal aliens, fugitive aliens and other immigration status violators” from northern Colorado and western Wyoming during a three-day operation.
Five people in Routt and Moffat counties were detained, officials said Friday.
Carl Rusnok, spokesman for ICE, said the operation specifically targeted known criminal aliens in a nationwide effort to reduce the number of fugitives living in the U.S.
Four of the five people detained in Routt and Moffat counties were apprehended Thursday during a traffic stop in Hayden.
The three-day operation began Wednesday in Summit County where 28 people were arrested. An additional five people were arrested in Sweetwater and Carbon counties in Wyoming.
The detainees included four women and 34 men ranging in age from 20 to 48. The detainees were from Mexico, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras and the Czech Republic.
