Ann Irvin loves taking pictures of her dog, Jack Daniels.
From getting the newspaper in the morning to his everyday tasks, Irvin frequently snaps the terrier shot.
"He has a great personality and is very photogenic," she said.
So when The Humane Society of Moffat County announced the pet of the month fundraising contest for its Petmates calendar three years ago, Irvin submitted Jack Daniels' photo.
And it's part of the reason why she is doing it again for the 2008 year. Supporting the organization is another.
"We got Jack from the shelter," Irvin said. "Our participation with the calendar was our way of showing support to the Humane Society."
In his first go-round, Jack Daniels turned out to be centerfold material and was the May Petmate of 2006.
Irvin encourages other Craig residents to showcase their pets.
"The calendar is such a fun thing for the community to participate in," Irvin said. "And it's for a great cause."
Treasurer of the Humane Society of Moffat County Carol Scott said the organization depends on this fundraiser to find animals safe homes.
"The calendar is our largest fundraiser," Scott said. "The donations are used to spay, neuter and vaccinate the animals, so we can transfer them to network shelters."
Humane Society is again seeking public participation for the third annual Petmates calendar of 2008.
There are three ways in which businesses and individuals can participate, through the pet of the month contest, buying a date square -- which is small photograph of a pet on a certain day of the month -- or buying an advertisement.
To register for the pet of the month contest, submit a digital photo of a household pet taken within the last year to HSMC_2008@yahoo.com by July 14.
A staff of local veterinarians will decide on the top 24 pet photos. The photos will be put on display at the Moffat County Fair in August.
Then it is up to the public to vote for its favorite by donating money under the animal of their choice. The 12 animals that raise the most money are the winners and will be featured in the 2008 Petmates Calendar.
The deadline for submitting photographs, and a $5 payment for placement on a date square, is June 30th.
