Ambulance serving north county in danger
Emergency response crew based in Little Snake River has not applied for annual certification
The Little Snake River ambulance that responds to accidents in the northern part of Moffat County is in danger of losing its Colorado certification.
Transporting patients to The Memorial Hospital in Moffat County requires a Pre-Hospital Care license. Moffat County government issues the license to insure uniform and qualified care for those being transported.
All first responders, including Craig police, Tri-State Generation and Transmission and the Maybell Ambulance, have to be certified each year to transport patients from accidents that occur in the county.
The Moffat County Commissioners have not received an application for certification from the responders in the Little Snake River Valley, county officials said during Tuesday's county commission meeting.
Any response by the ambulance to an accident in Moffat County will have the crew incurring their own liability and will be breaking state law, Emergency Medical Services Council representative Tom Soos told the commissioners.
Soos said the lack of an application might be due to understaffing by the crew, which is based out of Baggs, Wyo.
The ambulance remains available to respond to calls in Wyoming, but the license to work Colorado accidents expires June 30.
Calls to Little Snake River ambulance were not returned Tuesday.
In other action, the road and bridge department reported a tire-shredding machine has arrived at the landfill and the process of shredding the county's used tires will begin June 20.
Tires have been piling up at the landfill for the past couple of years, Linda DeRose with Road and Bridge said.
The Clean Up Craig weekend brought in 4,072 tires to the landfill, with 1,117 coming from city residents, and 2,955 from county residents.
A water truck needs to be present during the shredding operations to keep down dust, and hauling trucks are standing by to haul off the shredded tires, which will be used to cover the compacted trash at the landfill.
