The Moffat County School District Board of Education heard no public comment at its budget hearing Thursday evening.

The board reviewed the 2007-08 budget for the final time before it approves it at the June 28 meeting.

The budget includes $18.1 million in revenue and $17.8 in expenditures. The budget allows for a $260,000 fund balance increase by the end of the fiscal year.

The 2007-08 budget marks a $43,000 drop in expenditures from the current year budget. The board is allowing for $950,000 in additional expenses, such as raises and energy cost increases, for next year's budget. The board made cuts and reductions totaling $993,000 for next year's budget.

Since the previous board meeting, a teacher for Sunset Elementary School, an aide at Craig Middle School and a consumer price index raise for teachers have been added back into the budget. A one-on-one special education aide for Moffat County High School has also been added.

Superintendent Pete Bergmann said high school and middle school athletics will still be cut 10 percent, as other district programs have been. Instead of making the reduction in coaches' salaries, the board is giving athletic programs less money to operate. Teams may fundraise to make up the difference for operation expenses, such as equipment.

The 2007-08 budget includes $120,000 of non-earmarked capital fund monies that will be used for expenses as they arise.

Director of Finance Mark Rydberg said he did not expect there to be any changes to the budget before the board approves it later this month, except for plugging in exact teacher salaries once hires have been made.
