In order to recognize our local veterans and/or local families of veterans whose loved ones are inscribed on the Vietnam Memorial in Washington, D.C., and to have the opportunity for those servicemen and women to be recognized for their sacrifice during the Vietnam War while the Moving Wall is in Craig Aug. 8 to Aug. 13, we need family members to call my office so we can try to identify, mark and if possible, put together a brief history of their Vietnam service and death.

Please contact my office as soon as possible to allow us to gather the data required. Hopefully you have seen the flyers posted around town with the wall silhouette and the yellow “VN” service ribbon.

Ceremony schedule for the wall includes:

• On Aug. 6 and/or 7: Construction of base platform.

• Set-up upon arrival on Aug. 8, including addition of plantings and benches, roadside directional signage installed, security details to commence, and sunset “TAPS.”

• On Aug. 9: Local opening ceremony at 11 a.m.

• On Aug. 11: Official opening ceremonies at 11 a.m., with keynote speakers.

• On Aug. 13: Closing ceremonies at 11 a.m. Take down and storage of mementos left. Site clean up.

• Sunset “TAPS” will be played each evening the wall is on site.

Craig veterans clinic

No word from the Grand Junction VAMC yet.

Enrollment has slowed significantly. We still need vets to enroll so this clinic can succeed. If you have never enrolled into the VA Healthcare program now is the time.

For information on these programs and/or other veterans’ benefits, call or stop in the Moffat County VSO office at 480 Barclay St. (west of the Bank of Colorado parking lot).

Call 970-824-3246 or use the fax 970-824-7108. Our e-mail address is veterans@moffatcounty.net. The office is open from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., Monday through Thursday.
