Man flown to Denver after rollover
July 12, 2007
Steamboat Springs Two Craig men were injured - one seriously - Tuesday afternoon when the Jeep they were driving in rolled on Routt County Road 78 in Hayden.
Colorado State Patrol Sgt. Jim Copley said Jason Vest, 35, who was driving the Jeep Wrangler, was seriously injured and flown to Denver Health Medical Center shortly after the accident occurred at 1:05 p.m. Vest was listed in serious condition Wednesday.
The Jeep's passenger, 25-year-old Jay Whitlow, was treated for minor injuries and released from Yampa Valley Medical Center on Tuesday.
Copley said Vest was traveling on C.R. 78 "at a high rate of speed" when he apparently lost control of the vehicle coming around a curve. The Jeep came off the side of the road and rolled one complete time before coming to rest, he said.
Alcohol was a contributing factor to the accident, and Vest was cited for driving under the influence of alcohol, careless driving and not having insurance, he said.
Copley did not know if the men were wearing seatbelts at the time of the accident.
